Protection

It is important to always have a watchful eye out for other family members as well. You never really know what someone is capable of until they show their true colors.
My father’s aunt lived in El Paso and her husband had been in the Army for thirty years. We met for the first time when I was 15 and had already developed into a young woman. While I was standing on the back porch looking out towards the hills, he came behind me and put his hand on me inappropriately. I was frightened and angry, but I immediately went in and told my parents.
I don’t think it took us more than thirty minutes before we were packed up, in the car and on our way. My father protected me from anything worse happening.
But how many times do parents not watch out for their children? How often do they assume that nothing like that would ever happen in their family?
